About Team GIVE’R

Founded in 2009, Team Give’r brings together triathletes, cyclists, rowers, paddlers, skiers and others committed to seeing a world free from cancer in our lifetimes.

In the years since undergoing chemotherapy I have personally raised just over $90,000 for cancer research.   I am proud to say that our teams have now raised over $632,000 since 2009.  There truly is strength in numbers.

Our Passion for Cancer Research

Everyone on our team, like virtually all Canadians, has been touched by cancer in some way or another. Some have lost loved ones. Others have beaten the disease. I was diagnosed with testicular cancer in October of 2005.

After a successful surgery to remove the tumor and a clean CT scan, 2006 brought the unhappy news that the cancer had spread.

Following a nine week course of chemo I emerged in April 2007 with a clean bill of health. My experience in fighting this disease has led me to be active in various cancer fundraising initiatives and has connected me with countless others who are committed as well.

If you’d like to join us in this great cause of a cancer-free future, please consider donating to support my Ride and the Alberta Cancer Foundation:

  1. Hi Andrew:

My name is Svetlana, I was one of the organizers of the Cancer Survivorship Workshop at UBC/BC Cancer Agency back in May 2010. You were one of the speakers there and I was quite taken by your talk.

I am currently working on a study with Dr. Kirsten Bell from UBC about the experiences of cancer survivorship. As part of the study, we are interviewing people about their experiences going through diagnosis, treatment and living now with post-treatment. One of the groups I am particularly interested in is young adults (18-40 years) and I would like to make sure we have a good representation of them in the study.

So, I am wondering whether you or friends who have also dealt with cancer might want to participate in the study.

I am happy to meet with you and talk more about the study and answer questions. I also have a poster that I can send you. I can be reached at:
    svetlana@interchange.ubc.ca
    phone: 604.822.3486

Please let me know if you’re interested in participating or think you might know others who would.

    Cheers.
    Svetlana

    1. Hi Rose,

I’m in again for next year, and am planning to keep the blog going on issues of cancer prevention, the BCCA and the Ride to Conquer. Please do send whatever additional information you might have that I could work in. In particular related to the BCCF and where the money goes at the BCCA.
